LAKEWOOD — So much for wondering what Niwot's Elise Cranny would do for an encore after rewriting the Colorado prep track and field record books in 2013.

The Cougars senior distance ace broke Melody Fairchild's 22-year-old state record in the 1,600-meter run at last season. One year later at the 2014 Colorado state track and field championships, Cranny took down Fairchild's other seemingly untouchable record in the 3,200 that has stood since 1991 by nearly four seconds.

Cranny's time of 10 minutes, 17.48 seconds is now the fastest time in Colorado prep history.

"To take that record from Fairchild was a tough one. It's unbelievable," said Cougars coach Maurice Henriques, who spoke for Cranny while she was unavailable to the media on Friday. "That's just who Cranny is. She puts on a show."
